Richard Asquith, CEO
Richard works with the team to foster and drive VATCalc’s mission to digitalise VAT/GST and help automate the life out of tax headaches for our customers. Prior to VATCalc, he established Avalara’s VAT tech business, taking a major role in powering its stellar growth. Richard was on the leadership team for the 2018 Avalara IPO. Previously, Richard created vatlive.com, the world’s largest free VAT/GST info site, acquired by Avalara in 2014. In 2005, Richard formed TMF Group’s international VAT compliance service in 2004, which became its fastest growing unit. This is where he conceived and launched his first tax engine used today by thousands of insurers globally. Richard trained with KPMG in the UK, and went on to work with them and EY in Hungary, Russia and France.
Colin Matthews, Chief Product Officer
Colin is the vision behind the game-changing innovations at VATCalc. His ambition of a single VAT/GST platform for determination, returns and live reporting is what sets us apart. Colin was previously a senior leader at Avalara’s global VAT Product team, building and launching a range of SaaS tax applications. He also led the EMEA Solutions Consulting team. Prior to this, Colin spent a decade with TMF Group’s outsourced VAT compliance business, helping hundreds of businesses manage their VAT obligations. He started his career with HSBC.
Stijn Saelens, Chief Technology Officer
Stijn is a pioneer of the international VAT tech sector. Today, thousands of businesses use the technologies that he and his teams have built. At VATCalc, his unique blend of tech and tax expertise is at the heart of why our tech is so exciting. Stijn was one of the co-founders of VAT Applications in 2002, the Belgian tax automator Avalara acquired in 2015. He has conceived and built multiple VAT determination and reporting applications. He is a certified SAP ABAP developer. Stijn is a civil engineer by training, and where he first learned to power of automation to build on a huge scale.
Kid Misso, Chief Operating Officer
Kid’s focus is driving rapid growth for VATCalc in its UK and Belgian teams. He is a VAT technology veteran with a unique blend of automation, tax and commercial skills. His early career was spent in a variety of technology roles at Xerox, American Express and Commerce One. Kid has been in VAT technology since he helped launch Sabrix (the first Tax Engine to support VAT) into the European market in 2004. Since then he has led high performing tax automation teams in a range of diverse disciplines, including Product Management, Sales, Business Development, Sales Engineering and Consulting contributing to high double digit growth for his business lines in Thomson Reuters and Avalara (2018 IPO on New York stock exchange).
Andy Lee, Leader of Engineer Team
Andy inspires a Belgian and British team developing our next-gen tech at scale. He brings 25 years’ experience building and implementing real-time, fault tolerant, high availability systems in fintech and telecoms. Previously at Avalara Andy worked on the migration to cloud and was a Senior Technical Product Manager for e-invoicing.
Aradhana Gole, Leader of Tax Content Team
Aradhana is the tax guru whose team keeps our VAT/GST determination and reporting content up-to-date. A qualified tax lawyer her reach is global, maintaining current rates, rules and returns. Aradhana’s team is also responsible for bringing onboard new VAT regimes as they are implemented. She has been responsible in the past for researching and compiling expert indirect tax engine content and thought leadership for businesses including Avalara and Bloomberg.
Anuj Singh, Tax Content Manager
Anuj is passionate about ensuring our customers’ VAT determination and reporting is fully accurate via our deep VAT research capabilities. He is part of our Content team researching VAT & GST laws, regulations, and compliance requirements to formulate the content that underpins our disruptive application. Anuj has a long track record in automation, developing digitalisation to drive compliance.
Jacinta Caragher, Leader of Global Marketing Team
Jacinta makes us loud and digital on global markets. Her marketing team has already powered vatcalc.com to become one of the most-visited tax knowledge sites globally. This is underpinning our growth internationally. Previously, Jacinta has worked in some of the most prominent international tax and legal firms in the world. This included Baker McKenzie in London and PwC in Paris, developing go-to-market strategies with partners seeking to shape global tax thinking.
