Argentina removes VAT exemption news publications

VAT imposed on print and digital news

The Argentinian Presidential office has confirmed on 21 October that supplies of print and digital versions of newspapers, magazines and similar publications and subscriptions would become liable to VAT.

They are currently exempt under article 7 of Law 20,631 without the right to deduct VAT.

This measure is understood to increase the collection by 264 billion pesos.

Reform of Public Revenue AFIP

The Government also announced that the Federal Administration of Public Revenue, better known as AFIP, will cease to exist.

In its place, the Collection and Customs Control Agency will be created with a simplified structure: the higher authorities – political caste – will be reduced by 45% and the lower levels of the current structure by 31%. That is, in total, 34% of public office will be eliminated. In addition, about 3100 employees who entered during the last government in an irregular way will be relocated and made available. This will mean a budget saving of around 6,400 million pesos a year.
