2022 Budget introduces VAT rise on certain imports to fund foodstuffs rate cut
The Revised 2021-22 Fiji Budget has raised VAT from 9% to 15% on certain companies and imported goods and services. This rise replaced the Environment and Climate Adaptation Levy (ECAL).
This applied from 1 April 2022 until 31 March 2023 for businesses above the VAT registration threshold of FJD 100,000.
VAT on food basics has been reduced from 9% to 0%.
The goods including in the new 15% rate are:
- Air conditioners
- Dishwashers
- Dryers
- Electric Jugs
- Electric Gas Stove
- Electric Lawn Mowers
- Hair Dryers
- Microwaves
- Refrigerators and Freezers
- Mobile Phones
- Televisions
- Toasters
- Washing Machine
- Passenger Vehicles
- Alcohol and Tobacco
- Textiles, Clothing and Footwear
- Perfume, Jewellery and Watches
- Stereo/Sound Systems
- Electrical Machinery
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities
- Prescribed service under ECAL
