Slovenia to cut VAT on domestic energy and digital news as inflation rises

Temporary VAT cut to 9.5% bill on domestic energy and digital newspapers

Slovenia has confirmed a VAT rate cut on gas bills from 22% to 9.5%. This comes as inflation hit 10.4% in June.

The Slovenian Parliament is reviewing a bill to temporarily reduce the VAT on domestic energy supplies from the standard rate of 22% to the reduced rate of 5% until May 2023

The cut in indirect tax would be applied from 1 September 2022 to to May 31 2023.

Supplies included:

  • Electricity
  • Heating fuel
  • Natural gas
  • Digital newspapers and journals (e-books are already at 5%)
