Uruguay has extended the 1.64% discount on its standard 22$ VAT rate for purchases made by consumers with credit cards. The Ministry of Finance has rolled over the anti VAT-fraud measure until 31 December 2022.
This applies for the Uruguay Social debit cars or similar family allowance collections for certain vendors.
Uruguay introduced VAT on foreign digital services in 2018.
A reduced rate of 10 percent applies to certain goods and services such as basic food items, medicines and services rendered by hotels.
Tourists are provided a VAT refund When using a foreign credit or debit card in Uruguay from restaurant bills and car hire. This shopping benefit ends 30 April 2022.
